Midweek Meditations: What time Is It?

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:

2 a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
3 a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 a time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to throw away;
7 a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time for war, and a time for peace.

Devotion:

What time is it?  What time is it in your life?  In our life together as a children of God?  Are we building up or tearing down? Are we open to healing, planting, mourning, dancing?  What time is it?

As this new time of life after the shutdown of the pandemic begins, I hope we are asking ourselves questions about how we feel called to use this amazing gift of time we’ve been given.  We get the chance to take forward the things we’ve learned, and leave behind the things we no longer feel are worthy of our time. I hope we find ways to say yes to growing in faith, recognizing the gifts we have to give and the love we have to share.

Prayer:

Dear God, Help us to be open to the gifts that you have given us, and will continue to give us in this new time.  Help us to say yes to you – and embrace the time we are in as an opportunity to grow in faith in you. Amen

Reflection Questions:

Really, what time is it for you?

What time is it for the people in your life?

What is one thing can you do today that feels like you are living in God’s time?
